AMAL Community Outreach

As part of Mission of Hope's continued growth and committment to work with and assist the local community, we are keen on embarking on a new addition to the AMAL series of projects called AMAL Community Outreach. The AMAL Community Outreach program will start to involve regular visits to the various Detention Centres on a fortnightly and/or monthly basis, depending on volunteer availabilities, so that they can interact and develop positive and beneficial relationships with Detainees over a period of time.

Mission of Hope is working with the Villawood Detention Centre and would like to invite dedicated people to volunteer a couple of hours per fortnight/month to this good cause. Many of the Detainees are lonely and have no contact at all with the outside world. Alhumdulilah, the Villawood Detention Centre has allowed MoH access to visit, and we would like to extend this invitation to you if you are keen, dedicated, and genuinely interested in working with Detainees.

During last year's Eid Gift Drive, Mission of Hope conducted an Eid Party Celebration for them during Eid Al Adha in Decemeber 2007 that was alhamdullilah rewarding and successful.

The various activites to be carried out with the detainees include: BBQ's, sporting events, activities, day-trip outtings, picnics, mosque visits, etc in-order to assist them to integrate them back into community life.

If this sounds of interest to you, please forward an expression of interest to Nowzad Salih at n.salih@missionofhope.org.au to be considered for a volunteering role, and feel free to make further enquiries by contacting 0415 647 555.

Please be aware that Police Checks must be conducted on all volunteers prior to entering the detention centre for Clearance.

AMAL Helpline is a new telephone counselling/ crisis line initiative designed to meet the unique cultural and religious needs of the diverse Australian Muslim community. It is a free service that will be staffed by volunteer telephone counsellors attending to those needing emotional support in times of crisis.
AMAL Street Outreach will see a dedicated team of trained volunteers heading into the streets of Canterbury/Bankstown and the Auburn areas targeting 'At-Risk' youth. Our aim is to be a point of intervention to help this target group who are experiencing social and personal issues, in an empathetic, goal-directed, and culturally-appropriate way.
