A new initiative in the AMAL Series of Projects where trained volunteers assist at-risk youth on the streets of Bankstown, Lakemba, and Auburn areas with information, referral and emotional support in a manner designed to meet the unique cultural and religious needs of the diverse Australian Muslim community.
We are inshallah wanting to start in Mid-April 2008. Hours of volunteers are initially aimed to be Thursday, Friday, Saturdays from 4pm till late night.
The project will require trained volunteers dressed in uniform to drive AMAL Street Outreach vehicles in these areas and approach at-risk youth to begin conversation with them. You will be required to give appropriate advice and information regarding social, emotional, and personal issues that these youths may be experiencing difficulty with. The role of the AMAL Street Outreach Volunteer will also include making appropriate referrals to other community and mainstream agencies.
All training will be provided (2 days - 22nd & 23rd March 2008). Competency from training MUST be obtained before approval to be a ASO volunteer. To register for training please click here.

| AMAL Street Outreach will see a dedicated team of trained volunteers heading into the streets of Canterbury/Bankstown and the Auburn areas targeting 'At-Risk' youth. Our aim is to be a point of intervention to help this target group who are experiencing social and personal issues, in an empathetic, goal-directed, and culturally-appropriate way. |

 |
| AMAL Community Outreach will start to involve regular visits to the various Detention Centres on a fortnightly and/or monthly basis, depending on volunteer availabilities, so that they can interact and develop positive and beneficial relationships with Detainees over a period of time. |
